Bosco,
You make some good points, particularly on the veterans.

We owe our veterans a lot - just our lives.

As you said, we have too much of a me me me thought process now. If we get into another WWII type situation, then we are in deep shit. I have my doubts that Americans would come to the aid of their nation like the greatest generation did at a huge cost to each participant (cost to survivors as well as to KIA).

That is one reason why I harp on corruption, particularly in our leadership. Knowing how I feel about Gore now, how should I feel about him being commander-in-chief if my sixteen year old son has to go to war with that snake as commander-in-chief. Trust is critical.

More important, how should my son feel. He has lost respect for Gore also.

But it IS an us vs. them thing. I'm basically impartial. That is, I don't care who wins, as long as the vote is properly accepted.
The problem is that the vote HASN'T been properly accepted by one side. And IF they persist, they are making a mockery of the voting process.
There have been MANY cases of irregularities, of close votes, of disputed votes. In virtually EVERY case, the losing side has ACCEPTED the fact that they LOST.
My POV is this: Gore has every right to have the recounts. He has every right to wait for the absentee ballots. What he doesn't have is the right to continually ask for recounts until he gets the vote he wants.
He doesn't have the right to criticize Bush for putting together a transition team. That's the right thing to do - prepare for his term. Why Gore hasn't done the same thing is beyond me....
