Nadine

Do you know on what authority the Tues deadline was imposed? Also what's up with the Duval county ballots? Why are the Dems so mad? Did those ballots favor Gore as well.. it would appear so.. interesting stats appearing, were the Dems so enthusiastic about Gore they couldn't muster the strength to punch the ballot..-g-

". From what I know, I don't think they have a leg to stand on, since Florida law clearly allows them. "

There have been many illegitimate laws in the history of this country you know. I'm not saying that this one is, but the argument that there is a law and that makes it right and Constitutional just doesn't wash. The fact that Bush signed a 'manual recount' law into being in Texas is also irrelevant. For example, one state can have a legitimate, Constitutional death penalty statute written according to the specifications of the Supreme Court's ruling, and another could pass a law saying anyone arrested for murder will be drawn and quartered within a day. The fact that both states would have death penalty laws wouldn't mean the latter is legitimate. Bad laws only get overturned when challenged, and they only get challenged when something goes wrong.

Regards,

Barb

If this is true,

TENET OF ARABIA: NYT SET TO REPORT THAT CIA HAS BEEN TRAINING PALESTINIANS; CIA DIRECTOR PLAYED
'BROKERING ROLE' IN PEACE TALKS, TENET HAS CLOSE BOND WITH ARAFAT... Developing...

Maybe they would like to re-vote if CIA is training Palestinian uprising.

If, as the WP reports, the ballot design caused much of the problem, then it would seem that 'predominantly-republicans' in Duval are as careless about following ballot instructions as 'predominantly-democrats' in Palm Beach ...

Maybe the Republicans felt that trying to salvage more votes from the Duval 26k would undermine their efforts to stop manual recounts elsewhere. It certainly looks odd that so many disqualifications would go uninvestigated.

Illegitimate is not the same as legal. Their argument on manual counts is the introduction of additional human error and human corruption. Don't think it has a leg to stand on since one can always use the automated count to verify the manual count to improve the accuracy as a check.

Here's a good argument for retaining the electoral college:
