V, I hope you are right, but the only way we will have a President by next weekend is if Bush concedes. And that is very possible.

If Bush loses the court motion, and Palm Beach is allowed to count the remaining ballots by hand, I have no doubt that they will figure out a way of getting enough votes for Gore, even if they have to go back and have the "pregnant chads" have babies. They will troll for enough votes to even counter the absentee ballots.

In such a situation, even though Bush would have every reason to contest the procedures, or to open the remaining counties or states for recount, I think he will do the patriotic thing and concede for the good of the country.

OTOH, if the hand count is stopped, and Bush remains in the lead, I think Gore will keep fighting this all through the court system, and fight trench warfare just as he was taught by his impeached mentor. If he delays the process until Dec 18, he can even have the Florida electoral votes not counted.

And Hillary will be obfuscating all she can by trying to change our Constitution to have the electoral college thrown out. And, along with it, the balance of power from small states who add absolutely nothing to our democracy. After all, it is only the larger states that do anything. The rest of the country are a bunch of farmers, ranchers, miners, and small town folk who are not important.

Matt Drudge in his Sunday night Radio Show says the timeline would have it to the Supreme Court by the end of the week.
