tec - I have held 3 of my 11 equity positions for longer than 5 years, and I have only 2 stock positions which are less than a year old. I do less than 10 equity trades a year. I'm not sure what your definition of "long term" is... but I broadly divide long term versus other as whether one invests in equities based on the company, not the stock price, with a horizon of several years, and with the intention to hold at a minimum until the long term capital gains are in effect, or whether one invests based on technical analysis or other short term "casino" style metrics, trading as often as the metrics shift, with no regard for the underlying fundamentals.

Maybe you could give me your definition of "long term", the one I DON'T qualify for...
