TG,

mmm... An Athlon with PowerNow!... sounds like Palomino to me. Of course it could also de the 9 month-old k6-2+... wow what an impressive demo : something already on the shelves!

Max

The worst is that it could indeed be a k6-crap :-(

Athlon's Mobile Push Gathers Strength (AMD)

A big thanks to KH for noticing this article from Emaker Taiwan, formerly EETimes Taiwan, reporting on some recent developments involving the mobile Athlon. According to Emaker's sources, mobile Athlon chips have been shipped to notebook PC OEMs for testing. Designs for mobile Athlon motherboards were completed last quarter, and it is expected that these motherboards will start to appear as soon as the CPU testing is finished.

Reportedly, Toshiba, IBM, Acer, and others began testing ALi's M1647 chipset back in Q3, but they weren't able to qualify designs with the mobile Athlon because AMD had yet to supply any chips. As a result, they worked with the desktop chip, which has delayed the actual testing of power dissipation and so on.

Interestingly, a notebook OEM/ODM company based in Taiwan, Compal, has been quoted as saying that its mobile Athlon-based notebook is due to arrive no later than the first quarter of next year.

TG : after all the "PowerNow" system in demonstration was rather a Palomino than a k6-crap
