I also heard reports that some of the top Democratic contributors are very nervous about the Gore legal challenges. I'm not sure about the machine recount totals. Practically speaking, I think there are enough legal options to drag it out for 4 years. Rather than let this happen, my gut feel is that the courts will deny the legal challenges on the balloting procedures. However, the state courts might give the counties extra time to finish the manual recounts. To be fair, they might also require a recount for the whole state. This might drag out the Florida recount beyond next week.
