Dubbed ``the fastest PC on the planet'' by Jonathan Blackwood, senior technology editor at Winmag.com, micronpc.com's new Millennia MAX XP is the first personal computer that pairs the AMD Athlon(TM) processor with the new AMD-760(TM) chipset and a new memory technology known as Double Data Rate (DDR) SDRAM. Micronpc.com is currently the only major domestic PC manufacturer offering this combination. The resulting system takes full advantage of the blazing speed of the 1.2-GHz Athlon processor.

Maximum PC announces its awards annually in the December issue and posts the winners' names online. ``In the CPU category, competition is small in number, but high in intensity,'' said Maximum PC Editor-in-Chief Jon Phillips. ``It was difficult to choose. But in the end, the AMD Athlon processor got the nod because of its frequency headroom. AMD is essentially being recognized for launching a deep-pipelined core earlier than Intel. Where the (AMD) Athlon continued to scale, the Pentium® III hit a clock ceiling, and this became especially apparent and pertinent in the last months of 2000.''
