Yes, manually recounting all counties in Florida is better than recounting only the four counties requested by Democrats. However, there is no need to recount the rest of the nation, only those states where the result was close.

However, the Bush campaign is unlikely to be happy about a manual recount of all of Florida's votes, cuz of the punch card vs. opscan issue.

Do you see the hole in this Harvard professor's logic? Unlike a researcher who cleanses his data behind the scene, a canvasing board recounts votes with observers from both parties. They don't have the freedom of choosing which data point to throw away and which to keep.

Blaming Gore for requesting hand count only in districts favoring him is akin to blaming a football coach for not calling timeout to save time for his opposing team. The Republicans' lack of a game plan does not result in an unfairness on Gore's part. He's playing by the rules - nothing can be more American than that.

Regarding the desire to count the whole FLA by hand again, I don't think Gore's camp would dare to oppose it. Electing a president is important for the public, but even more important for the public is the issue of legitimacy.

Using the Tuesday deadline as a gambit is a bad decision. It may lead to a vote by the e.c. w/o FLA. That will play into Gore's hands, but it won't help his legitimacy.

Let this issue run its course. Haster can run the country until the issue is resolved. Or, better yet let the current president run it until then. As far as a country manager, no one come close to him at the moment. He may need a few more years to help sorting out the mess in the middle east anyway!
