The truth is out. All methods of counting votes have a margin of error. In retrospect, we should have expected that. It was never a problem as long as one candidate won by a margin greater than the margin of error. I hope high school math teachers are making full use of this opportunity. That Bush and Gore are so close in so many states is quite amazing.

I know university students are watching. This is Lindsay's first election and she says it's all they're talking about at UCLA. I'm proud of all my daughters. They voted for women's rights, saving the wetlands, clean air, gun control . . . These are the kids who will elect tomorrow's leaders. And also the kids who will determine how ballots are designed and how they're counted.

In the evolving Internet era where intelligent educated citizens will have as much access to the dissemination of information as the current play-it-to-the-lowest-common-denominator networks, there is a ray of hope.
