We're already there. Saudi Arabia is pretty much our bitch. If the need ever arose, I'm sure the US would land an occupying force in a few days.

The only reason we don't invade is a calculation of how much money it would take to occupy that area and give ourselves oil for free, and how much that action would cost us in the political arena.

If oil hits $100 per barrel, the powers that be might start to consider invasion as an option.
