It will be the American people...>> No, the American people are winners and not the losers.. In any other country of the world with this kind of close ballot by now few heads would have opened. I think democracy is strengthen by these close calls, I am from day one an optimist and continue to be so, in my opinion you may see that 'importance of vote' established in a generation who thought that voting is a wasteful exercise.. Establishing the respect of voting is one great benefit you would see, I assure you that people from now on throng to the elections and this indifference would reduce especially the ‘haves’ who like not to waste three hours in a line. Good lesson if you want to be enfranchised, stand up and be counted. This election would also re-incorporate basic belief in democracy even with the tinniest of the margin, all these things strengthen democracy, they don't weaken it. I don’t US losing or Americans losing anywhere, they have everything going their way even in disagreements they are showing the mettle to the world. Why do we like things to be so ‘straight’ sometime we get sharp turns and we need to live with them, the mockery that outside world thinks that US looks like a bunch of idiots, I don't buy it.. Any European Federation would not able to handle these kinds of pressures, a nation that crosses all kind of color, religion and geographical barrier I am impressed with what I have seen so far. This is the ultimate test of the nation basic character. Nations do fail such hard tests and USSR was one example an artificial empire that disappeared over night the long night of the east Europeans autocrats fizzled in no time. A weaker nation does fail and fizzle out, a great nation has to face greater challenges and come out of it a winner that is what this whole disagreement should lead to. We are use to effortless thinking any thing that leads to a curve ball make us excessively worried. That is not the case here. We need to negotiate this curve ball with best of our capacity and come out winner that has to be the resolve. It is such kind of tests that most of the federations fail, for me US so far has conducted itself with greatest of restraint. The Bush and Gore camp are doing what is necessary, for me the few hundred-vote difference in 100 million, is something that has a probability near to zero. In such an event we could have had all kind of disagreements and even riots, none so far, give me one European country that could have gone through this exercise with such a calm. Look at fragmentation of Yugoslavia a federation, look at balkanization of the eastern Europe and look at fierce way Danes try to maintain their independence from a lame duck EU. In US the constitution once again has provided us the helping hand by the genius of the founding fathers. The concept of geographically divided US with sates at one end of spectrum from Montana to California and New Mexico to the other, getting equal satisfaction to know that their vote counts is the genius of the author of constitution. The destructive chaos extends an invisible hand of order in our life, don't forget that corporate stability is based on the fact that corporate have inherent instability to be knocked down, that keeps the corporate on the prowl for survival. So are countries, the test of stability is to conduct collectively in times as such where probability of the event is zero. The bit of restraint, that is the ultimate test on which every Democrat, Republican and Green or Buchanan follower should be proud of today. Every Us citizen should be proud of extending the values of democracy.
