My one big gripe about the Regan/Bush years is the fallacy [IMO] that we needed to 'outspend' the USSR to make it collapse. Plenty of anecdotal evidence was floating around for more than a decade that they would crumble. Shows how worthless "central intelligence" can be at times.

The other is the continued republican obsession with the "we should have/ could have won" [the vietnam war].
