<<So how bout we scratch both the Electoral College and the popular vote and go with who wins more square mileage? That seems to be very relevant to some people. >>

Sounds ok to me. Country people think clearer than those citified folks breathing all those exhaust fumes.

If we go by square mileage, Bush wins California hands down.
Bush won in 37 counties, and Gore in 22 counties.
The Bush counties make more than 2/3rd of the California
land mass. The Gore counties are almost all on the Coast,
and in case of major earthquake, we stand a good chance
of setting them adrift at sea.

Sounds good to me. Will mountainous regions get more votes because they have more square surface-miles, or will the calculation be made by flat, map-surface area? Will bodies of water be deducted?

I think it's terrible the way these states think they have rights, don't you? I sure do hope the federal courts put a stop to this effrontery asap, as the Republicans are demanding.

Seriously, though, folks. It does amaze me that anyone is waxing morally indignant, as though their favored, or, more likely, less-loathed, candidate is the one with the moral high ground. Each is doing exactly what the other would do in this situation. (That's usually the way political life works, isn't it? Self interest rules reason.)
