It's more that you have a poster hanging where your mirror should be. You see your traits as good, but you are not examining yourself, you examine an idealized example and so do not feedback the necessary corrections to actually emulate your examples.

Unlike Dorian Grey, your poster picture remains sunny, proud, and patriotic while your inner self decays into a spiteful old coot.
