I thought that Don Imus put it rather well this morning.

He said that before the election most Americans felt that they were faced with a choice between two losers - and after the election the results show that they were right!

as before, my view 6-12 months out has hinged upon the Fed

if they want to subdue the economy, allow financial strains to pass from sector to sector, see further illiquidity prevail, JUST to bring about balance within the labor market in their view... then I am not optimistic at all

if they want to restore stability, allow for continued growth, and prevent a dissipation of the federal account surplus... then I am still optimistic

it is in the hands of the Federal Reserve governors and Greenspan
those 70 yrold men with clear memories of 1970, who never ran a business, who still believe in Phillips Curve, these guys are in charge of the future

and nobody elected them
