Kash,

The market stinks. Naz down almost 50% from high and dropping, both AMD and Intel down 50% from high. There is a lot of uncertainty. Economy is cooling down, Christmas selling may not be so hot, plus we have the election deadlock, mid-east, oil. I don't think this is the bottom.

Kash,
re: I just sold all my AMD for a loss just know.

And bought all Intel.

Heavily on margin.

I hope you made the right decision. While I can understand your move wrt AMD (sold 60% of my position myself today -> probably the reason why AMD is up right now; I hope the thread is thankful for Kash's and my sacrifice *g*) I don't think that Intel is a good buy. While they might win the GHz race I think their ASPs will suffer and so will the stock price. Also I'd avoid buying on margin in this market environment.

Good luck,
ABurner

kash, But AMD droids continue to believe that PIV is junk and Intel will release 1.2-1.3Ghz chips in Q1 2001

I think we've been pretty consistent in saying that there would be no P4's slower than 1.4.

Unfortunately the PIV may well yield better than expected.

Are you talking yields or bin splits? Do you think yields are 180%, which would allow Intel to make as many P4's from their lone fab as P3's? If Intel is going to flood the market with P4's, I don't think DELL would be lowering growth expectations to 20%, do you?

No, obviously, DELL knows a lot more about the P4 production ramp than you do.

The AMD AThlons seems maxed out at 1.2-1.3Ghz.

The Palomino will debut at 1.33 GHz in early January

This is clear if 80% of AThlons yield at Ghz and better - so 20% is at 900Mhz grade. And we know that Fab 25 maxes out at 1.0-1.1 Ghz.

80% > 1 GHz was Q3! 20% was at 900 MHz 3 months ago. Fab 25 could not possibly meet all the demand for $100 to $150 1 GHz nad 1.1 GHz Athlons in Q1 and also make Durons. Intel has 7 fabs that can't make anything faster than 1 GHz and 20% of their output is at 800 MHz and below. So what is your point?

Do you think Intel is going to convert those 7 fabs overnight to P4, so they can halve their CPU production? They will be lucky to get $50 a CPU for that 800 MHz output.

I just sold all my AMD for a loss just know. And bought all Intel.

Not looking too good today yet.

I think even droids acknowledged Intel is going coming out with 1.4 and 1.5 GHz P4, but AMD is in no danger of losing price/performance, what kind of volume do you think P4 can achieved in the next 4 months?

There is clear exaggeration in your characterization of the thread's beliefs on PIV. Your post seem to be biased to your trading behaviours as if one was aimed at influencing the outcome of the other.

I hope you didn't do that based on this rumor! Don't forget that the news comes from the register, not cnet, not yahoo, reuters or any news giant.

But, after all it's all you : in and out and in and out.

BTW nobody thinks that the P4 is maxed out at 1.3GHz here I think that it's as foolish to beleive in that than to beleive in a 2GHz P4 in January. Intel doesn't need to do that to sell all it produces. The only reason to do that is to try to screw AMD. But if they screw AMD they screw PIII even more. And don't forget that the the palomino could be a serious contender to the P4 even with a 400MHz gap. The computer press won't close their eyes on a 1.33GHz CPU outperforming a 1.7GHz one... they'll say the 1.7GHz is far from being the best bang for the buck.

OTOH - If Intel executes well in Q1 (no problems with P4, good volumes of P!!!, .13u mobile end Q2), I have to admit that Intel could go back in the 60's. But never forget PIII when you think to P4.
