Sandip Burman Sits in with Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, More Special Guests Scheduled This Week

Indian tabla player Sandip Burman sat in with Bela Felck & the Flecktones last night at the Somerville Theater in Somerville, MA. The show was the first of a record four-night run at the venue. Burman joined the band for the majority of the show and took an extended solo during the second set. The Flecktones will welcome special guests to the stage during each of the next three nights in preparation for Friday’s concert at the Quick Center in Fairfield, CT, which will be recorded for a DirecTV broadcast. Tonight Andy Narell (steel pans) will join the band, tomorrow night Paul MacCandless (oboe) & Paul Hanson (bassoon) will sit in and Thursday MacCandless, Hanson and Narell will all collaborate with the Flecktones. Friday’s recorded show will feature all of the guests from this week’s four-night run in Somerville. The two-hour live
video will air in early 2001 for DirecTV subscribers. Following the broadcast, the program will be released on DVD. For more information, visit flecktones.com.
