5x figure came from Business Week in July

of course not, we are consuming more oil now

but the overall US economy is much much larger
and mfg has been largely shipped offshore with higher energy usage
and our service sector is growing leaps & bounds, with less energy usage

and our computer/communications/information economy has enjoyed burgeoning growth over the past decade or more

are you telling me our technology sector has grown not at all in the last 27 years ???

take a little example:
you spend X per month on energy related expenses
that figure is a little higher than 20 years ago
but your personal income is what, 3x larger ???

I doubt the price of gas at pump has kept pace with minimum wage !!!
