5x oil factor is from a GDP argument
you will have to ask Business Week

the price of gas at pump is only slightly higher than in 1973 peak
yet our economy has grown 3% per year except for a few years

you may grossly underestimate the effect of offshore mfg trends and energy usage consequence
both Asia Tigers and Mexico via NAFTA

crude oil is up substantially this year
where is the inflation?
that is the most recent egregious error by inept economic statisticians
they expected it to filter down to CPI
it got absorbed by technology productivity gains

the internet effect is so so so big, hard to calculate

I have no exact figures, sorry, which would indeed be interesting
I have discussed this with people smarter than me from Boston tech circles
they confirm the 5x factor as a nobrainer concept
