EDS and GoAmerica to Deliver Seamless Wireless Data Solutions To Corporations and Mobile Professionals
Announced at COMDEX/Fall 2000, Agreement Forms Part of EDS Mobile Services
LAS VEGAS, Nov. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- EDS (NYSE: EDS - news) and GoAmerica (Nasdaq: GOAM - news), a leading wireless data and Internet services provider, today announced the signing of an alliance to bring seamless mobile data solutions to corporate enterprises. The agreement combines EDS' e- business infrastructure, mobile commerce application suite and integration expertise with GoAmerica's leading Go.Web(TM) technology and wireless data services. As a cornerstone of the EDS Mobile services initiative, the two companies will jointly develop, build and bring to market the next generation of customized, end-to-end mobility solutions. This will provide corporations with secure, flexible, scalable mobile access to enterprise applications, communications tools, intranets, email and the Internet.
Toward that end, today at COMDEX/Fall 2000, the two companies unveiled the first product of this new alliance, an EDS mobile Web portal that will give U.S.-based EDS employees wireless access to valuable corporate information. Under this 'proof of concept' initiative, EDS will adopt wireless technology supported by the Go.Web platform. This will allow employees to use their wireless device of choice to send and receive e-mail; fill out contracts; complete expense reports; access employee information; and conduct banking transactions with the EDS Credit Union.
EDS and GoAmerica will create and implement a joint marketing program and will resell each other's products and services. They will also jointly develop new products and technologies and incorporate each other's products and services in their respective business operations. Additionally, GoAmerica will use EDS' Mobile Logistics Distribution Services for logistics outsourcing including provisioning and fulfillment of orders for service, equipment and shipping.
``This agreement takes mobile communications to a new level,'' said Aaron Dobrinsky, president and CEO of GoAmerica. ``By combining our knowledge of the industry and our leading technology with the unmatched expertise of EDS, we are demonstrating to the corporate marketplace that we know what they need and that we can provide it for them.''
``By teaming with GoAmerica, EDS is offering American corporations the key to creating more competitive advantage -- the ability to conduct business virtually anywhere, anytime, on any device,'' said Reza Jafari, president, EDS Global Communications, Entertainment and Media Industry Group. ``We feel so strongly about the potential of this alliance that we will be adopting the technology inside EDS, proving both the technology and the concept by example.''
GoAmerica and EDS first announced their intent to form an alliance in June, 2000. ``The alliance between EDS and GoAmerica represents two industry veterans joining forces to provide the professional mobile community with the tools and expertise needed to have a competitive advantage in the growing wireless marketplace,'' said Roberta Wiggins, director, Wireless/Mobile Communications, The Yankee Group.
