Those statements by Gore's people are unfortunate. Indeed the attempt by Katherine Harris is almost surely a partisan attempt to subvert the recount that they could not get stopped in Federal Court. But I also think that the statements by Chris Lehane are out of line.

These people should just cool their jets, and let the process of hand counting conclude.

I read the statute, and it's clear that those special cases are restricted to "acts of God" - not the desire of people or counties. Based on this, I'd say the State court should rule that the actions of the Secretary of State are in coplete compliance with the state's statutes. If the court rules otherwise, they are on very thin legal ice, and would probably have their ruling overturned in the Court of Appeals.
