Why are you a democrat?

I'm only usually a democrat, I vote for other parties especially on local elections.

In general the democrats tend to setup laws and policies which say that various decisions are left up to the individual, while the republicans tend to want laws outlawing behavior that does not conform to the Judao-Christain format. That of course is just a generalization and changes a bit depending on party leaders.

There are other issues, I think a big superpower needs a strong central government. Weak governments invite hanky-panky both domestic and foriegn. I also think that the government has a valuable role in unifying the system of laws and regulations so that it doesn't take 50 different interpretations to find out what is okay or a crime.
