The United States is so far from having a religious establishment that any fears of even the most zealous, bigoted religious leaders are absurd, and reflect a lack of knowledge of the country. In fact, no religious leader that I know of wants to go beyond the consensus of the 1950's, which were not noted for their clericalism, and most don't even want to go that far back.........

Hasidic Jews typically vote Republican. So, perhaps
they are more afraid of the valueless left than the
Christian right.

One need only look at this thread's clown posse to realize that they destroy people for sport. They would be willing to strip the rights of any they disagreed with, and then cackle and laugh over the results. The GOP is not to be trusted because of the company they keep.

"However, there are well founded fears against bigoted zealots whose support GOP, actively and agressively seeks"

Not sure if you were paying attention during the legitimate campaigning that happened before the election (up until now, that is when it DID happen), but the real right wingers of the repub party were kind of pissed at GWB for being too middle of the road. Are you asserting that GWB went hard after this group? If so, what campaign were you watching?
