Scumbria,

The deficit had been cut in half before the Republican Congress even convened.

Could it be because the RTC has just been shut down, after spending up somewhere in the neighborhood of $500 billion of RTC S&L bailout?

Joe

Clinton rescued them from doing another stupid across the board tax cut,

Scumbria, is it the tax cut that you object to or the fact that it is across the board? Personally I think targeted tax cuts are a bad policy. They complicate the tax laws still more. Provide more incentive to find ways to evade taxes rather then invest productively, and are one more attempt for the government ton control our lives more by keeping taxes high for everyone who doesn't do exactly what the government wants to get some of there own money back. I would rather have no tax cut then a small highly targeted one.
