The constitution requires that people all vote on the same day. Of course absentee ballots are often marked and mailed ahead of time, but I think the idea is that people CAN delay the mailing UNTIL election day. So requiring them to be mailed, say 10 days in advance, would be unconstitutional.

As to moving to July 4th, that presents other problems. First of all, people go away more frequently in the summer and over that holiday week in particular. An all internet election COULD allow that to happen. Then we'd have 6 months of a lame duck President versus the 2.5 months now. Frankly I think even 2.5 months is too much.

A better idea would be to eliminate Presidents Day, Columbus Day, and Martin Luther King day and make ONE holiday called "Great American's Day". Then combine Veterans Day and Memorial Day into "American Soldiers Day".

That would free up an additional holiday in the fall for an election or whatever.

> Also, have the election over the 4th July holiday rather than in November.

I don't think it is a coincidence that the election is held 6 months after and 6 months before taxes are due. I think the elections should be held on May 1st.
