Your link didn't work, but I think I visited the county-by-county map earlier in the day. I believe that is what you were referring to.

In response to your statement, I also would point out that the Republicans would tire rather quickly of having nothing to watch on TV but reruns of Barney and Aunt Bee on the Andy Griffith Show.

Showing that map does not prove anything.
Was watching a demographics show a couple of days back.(non Politial)
Density in NJ NY is > 1000, more than Europe.
Density in PA to WI is around 200
In the Empty states it is 6 per sq mile.
Also mentioned was the fact that rainfall varies from 6 in/yr to 20 in/yr between the 6/sq mi area and the 200/sq mi areas.
If you wish to even attempt to be fair, you should paint the Pacific Ocean Blue as HI went Blue.
Or why not show a Assets Map instead. maybe 90% of the greenbacks voted Red and the 10% of the greenbacks stuck in the grimy hands of the poor voted blue.
