Oh please. More nonsense. The purpose of the suit was a naked attempt to bury the hand counts of the machine unreadable ballots.

Furthermore, the citizens, and now the counties doing the vote recounts, have all filed in state court as the appropriate venue for pursuing these issues. They are after all matters of state law that they are asking to be resolved.

Maybe the reason that Republicans aren't as good at this legal stuff is that they simply don't understand the issues?

<I think that the purpose of the federal suit was to get the Gore folks to insist upon the supremacy of states-rights over the federal government's in these cases.> I think you are reading too much into this, and giving the Bush folks too much credit. I don't think the Gore folks have ever had much interest in going to federal court, and possibly ening up before William R and the Supremes. They would rather take their chances in state court on state law issues, where they end up before the Florida Supreme Court, dominated by judges appointed by Democrats.

For the same reason, I think the Bush folks wanted to be in federal court. I would be surprised if they dont try to get their federal case before the US Supreme Court if the Dems win their deadline case tommorrow. They've put their eggs in that basket instead of asking for their own manual recount.
