A bear market is always started after the fED raises the rates at least 3 times in sucession, as happened in the 80's. The bear ends when they lower the rates, at least that is what history tell us.

Definition of Bull vs. Bear Market:

I've never used a definition, since I think labelling markets causes people to have mental biases. I just think in terms of up or down, and what timeframe. Also, I assign no value judgement to up and down, such as up = good and down = bad.

These are my thoughts as a trader, of course, but I think in general people love labelling everything and everybody they encounter, and most of the time, it's counter-productive, as it shuts down the mind to new possibilities, combinations and permutations.
