Libya: En Naga commercial bids due - Middle East Economic Digest, last week's issue

Commercial bids for the first phase development of the En Naga North and West oil field are due to be submitted in early November, project sources say. The tender committee is close to completing the evaluation of technical bids submitted in September. The contract packages, estimated to be worth $80 million-100 million in total, are for the construction of central processing facilities and a pipeline.

The bidders are understood to include Consolidated Contractors International Company (CCO and Joannou Paraskevaides (J&P - Overseas), both Athens-based, and Italy's Bonatti. Work on the two packages is planned to be carried out in parallel.

The 100-kilometre pipeline will link the En Naga field with the El-Sider terminal on the Gulf of Sirte. Sweden's Lundin Oil, which is developing the En Naga block in a production sharing agreement with International Petroleum Libya, is the client, The company plans to begin production by July 2001, pumping 14,000 barrels a day (b/d) in the first phase. A second phase is planned which will boost production to 26,000 b/d. The En Naga field was discovered in 1998. The company also announced at the end of October a $50 million loan from the local Arab Banking Corporation (ABC). "The proceeds of the six-year facility will be used for the development of the En Naga field", said a spokesman for ABC.

IPC/Sodra Petroleum: New Survey in North Falkland Basin

IPC/Sodra Petroleum, operators of a production licence for Tranche F in the North Falkland Basin with partners Desire Petroleum, have awarded a contract to Veritas, a geophysical services company, to acquire 2000km of 2D seismic data in the North Falkland Basin.

Veritas will deploy their vessel R/V New Venture which is currently surveying in Mauritanian waters off west Africa. The New Venture plans to start surveying in the North Falkland Basin in late December.

The Falkland Islands Government welcomes investment that companies are making to acquire new infill data that will add to the geological understanding of the area.
