Isopatch -

Power was problem in Silicon Valley this summer- we had one rolling blackout which shutdown almost everybody.

Additonal power is being built, specifically at Moss Landing just south of Santa Cruz on the coast. There's a proposed Calpine plant for South San Jose that is now a political football.

People in the Valley want power, and not power plants. They have the money to pay for it and outbid almost everybody else in the power market. They also have huge political clout, having made massive donations to both parties, and having created much of the stock value that has resulted in the Federal Govt
"surplus". The power plants will be built in someone else's backyard. There is a limit on power transmission capacity, but I think some of that is being addresssed.

If you get the sense of the Valley being rich, powerful, and somewhat spoiled with just a touch of arrogance, you're wrong.

We're extremely arrogant.

The high power pricing will hit economically weaker users, such as agriculture & food processing. They may be forced to cut back operations or shift them to states with more power.

I expect more power problems next summer, and a lot of rhetoric, but little economic impact on the Valley.
