<< Earnings are of no concern? >>

The negative numbers from HP had a mildly negative impact on the market, but this factor is nothing compared to the election effect on the market, IMO.

The market was at 4400 and trying to rally significantly when a president was elected. I watched the futures market at the time Bush was announced as the winner. The futures shot dramatically higher. As the uncertainty returned and the election results were questioned, the futures turned negative. The market then moved much lower over the next week as the uncertainty increased. Nasdaq - 500 in just over a week from election night to the low reached yesterday.
