on Florida absentee votes: opinion from army guy (majority Bush)

just finished a mile swim at a nice club in Clearwater
afterwards I went to relax in a warm pool off to side
three grayhairs were talking, naturally about the election

the guy was a retired Army veteran, three VietNam tours, one Korean tour
gentle fellow very interested in talking and sharing
he told stories about his 20 yrs at Fort Bragg in NoCarolina
in the last few years he has been in Florida

he hears stories of FtBragg having 21 fighter helicopters
but 8 have been cannibalized for parts
service men and women are really frustrated
he claims this is true across entire military

not only by lack of parts but lack of budget and lack of personnel
service men & women are very frustrated with shorterm tours
because of shortage, they are forced to make short tours in several semi-hot spots
they are ALL very tired

he hears stories of the USMilitary arsenal of Cruise missiles
it is ALMOST EMPTY, and is not being replenished due to budget cuts

the military does NOT feel supported by the Clinton Administration
he says Gore has NOT convinced anyone of any imminent changes

he concluded:
"dont worry about Gore picking up votes from absentees... the bulk of the military bases will vote for Bush... they hate the Clinton/Gore team for budget cutbacks... and they also like Bush's choice of Colin Powell as SecyState"

he expects a large response from military folks
he says they are all interested in the vote

FL absentees could be overwhelming for Bush
I expect them to cut the legs right from under Gore
gonna be fun
/ Jim

spin, spin.
The circus cannot be over until all of the rings have been filled with jugglers and clowns. Just like a bear market, this circus must end with catharsis, not deadline, or it will drag on and on and on.
