voyagers, I agree, but the Republicans had the right to demand recounts as well. Even Warren Christopher said that the Gore camp would be in favor of letting the Republicans have a recount as well, even though they missed the deadline.

PRETTY NICE OF THE DEMOCRATS ISN'T IT?

The Democrats are saying (and proving by their actions) that they want as accurate a count as possible.

It is the Republicans who decided that were not going to exercise their legal right. Don't blame the Democrats for that. They were just acting within their rights under Florida law.

As far as standards go, I agree that it would have been good to have set standards across the state. Florida should get their act together but the problem is that not all counties even use the same ballot layout.

However, just because there are not absolute set standards, don't exaggerate the problem. The cards that have obvious hanging chads or cards that are too bent for the machine to read, or cards that are double punched are easy to spot.
