"... total gridlock is a shoo-in for the next 4 years."

Bush will do so well during the next four years he will even surprise many hard core Democrats. Gridlock for 6mos to a year, that's all.

Don,

My take is that today the market went up strongly upon the belief that Bush would win. When the judge's decision that the 5:00 pm deadline stands was issued, the market rallied. When Warren Christopher arrived to proclaim that the Dems got want they want from the decision and that they think they've won the point they wanted to make and threatened legal action if the FL Secretary of State doesn't allow the manual recounts to be considered when they are completed, the market didn't act as if it was overly concerned with this pronouncement. EVEN though it obviously introduced further uncertainty into the picture.

If the public perception suddenly starts to believe that Gore will prevail, I believe there will be a sharp selloff. I am considering buying some cheap puts when the market reaches a peak before the week-end. We have seen in this that ANYthing can happen and sometimes does. I'm thinking today that a bit of hedging over the weekend may be a prudent move.
