Dennis, thanks, I forgot about that comment. Have we seen the patent yet? If I recall, Valence had a patent-sharing agreement with Eveready covering a set of patents that included the manganese dioxide materials, and others for the additives that are 'essential' to make the materials useful. One of those looked like a 'carpet patent' (my term, LOL), basically covering everything that could be a useful additive, whether actually tested or not. Such patents are not uncommon, and have been upheld in court under challenge before, acc. to what a chemical engineer related to me. Perhaps Valence has fleshed out the specific patents, based on their experiments and production, that cover exactly the correct materials. Nail in the coffin, so to speak?

Not being a chemist, I make no pretense to understand these matters, esp the distinction between the various materials, additives, and processes; much less do I lay claim to discern the relative viability of the patents held by the various parties.
