Please don't even try to talk any sense into them re< the state being called Gore's before the polls closed..I haven't had one of them admit to me yet that that wasn't fair. Even though all they really want is to "hear the will of the people"... GIVE ME A BREAK!!

There exists precedent in courts in many states on this. And no one has yet successfully petitioned different results of an election based on the behavior of the media.

I agree with you, it's a beat deal to have the media project a winner when polls are still open. I think what happened this time around is the extra pressure put on the networks due to the Internet.

Hopefully, this election will produce three results:

1) A clear winner for president.
2) Standardized national voting systems. (Maybe tax a percentage from each campaign's fundraising to pay for standardized voting machines?)
3) Standards for media behavior when projecting races.

How many do you know for a fact did not vote because they heard the race was over? You have no numbers because there are no tabulations. This reasoning could be extrapolated to the west coast when the polls show who's won before the've voted like Clinton over Dole in 1996. Where were you then ?
