Sycamore raises 2001 EPS, revenue outlook

BOSTON, Nov 14 (Reuters) - Optical networking firm Sycamore Networks Inc. (NasdaqNM:SCMR - news)said on Tuesday it expects its revenue to grow as much as 205 percent in 2001 to more than $500 million.

After the market closed, Sycamore Chief Financial Officer Frances Jewels also raised the company's earnings forecast as much as 3 cents to 24 cents per share in fiscal year 2001.

Jewels also told analysts during a conference call that Sycamore expects revenue in fiscal 2002 to increase as much
as 75 percent.

I would imagine Paul Sagawa is trying desparately to conjure up ways to turn this report negative. Perhaps, he could think that this report confirm his SPECULATIVE notion that optical spending is slowing, since Sycamore projects 205% growth in 2001, but yet only projects 75%!!!! growth in 2002. That is how ridiculous these talking heads have been on the issue of optical spending slowdown. Any industry growing a sustainable 30%+ year over year shouldn't be termed a slowdown. Where else can you go outside of the optical realm to find such fantastic growth - retailers? brokerage? financials? the GE of the world who command 500B+ market cap but growing much less? Wallstreet needs to wake up to the fact that optical arena is still sizzling hot!
