Bush takes lead from Gore in county vote
COUNT CONTINUES: Absentee ballots make difference;
final results due today as some 12,000 remain to be tallied.

Tuesday November 14, 2000

George W. Bush has overtaken Al Gore in the race for
Ventura County's popular vote, according to new results
released Monday by election officials.

The new totals reflect an additional 70,271 absentee ballots
counted since Nov. 7. But there are still 11,000 to 12,000
absentee ballots to count, county officials said, and final
results will not be available until this afternoon.

Monday's tally showed Bush with 48.1 percent, or 127,627
votes, in Ventura County. Gore had 47.1 percent, or
125,168 votes.

Results the day after the election showed Gore beating Bush
by 510 votes -- 110,003 to 109,493, or 47.7 percent to
47.5 percent.

Yes, why should we trust Reuters, NY Times, CBS News and AP when we have the Enquirer and the Star to provide much more insightful news services...hint: when in trouble with folks supplying useful news info that support your statements, simply answer with a blanket: "can't trust the media".
