The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday, Nov. 14, edition that Global Election
Systems jumped 88 cents to $2.65 on the Toronto Stock Exchange Monday. The
Globe's Market Movers column reports that Global Election stock soared owing
to increased exposure brought on by voting glitches in the recent United States
presidential race. Company spokesperson, Clinton Rickards, says: "The
inadequacy of the equipment being used has been brought to the public eye and to
the eyes of the politicians. There is equipment being used for very important issues
that isn't up to the technological standards of 2001." Mr. Rickards says Global
Election has been receiving a lot of positive media attention following the U.S.
election troubles. About 850 election jurisdictions in North America use Global
Election's voting systems, including 17 in Florida. Mr. Rickards says the
company's equipment experienced "no problems" in Florida, explaining that the
results of the mandatory recounts in those jurisdictions matched up with the
original tallies.
