The problem is that just like there was no misunderstanding between East and West, there is no misunderstanding between Arabs and Jews. What solved the East-West conflict is that one side eventually changed their intentions, and the conflict went away. There was nothing more to talk about. The "peace process" was no longer needed. Joe, I have no idea how you come up with this stuff...but you amaze me. The East West conflict ended because Russia ran out of rubles and could no longer afford to maintain its hold on the Eastern European bloc. As for Israel and Palestine, its a fight over land and a religious war on the surface, and behind those two points, a dispute between the haves and havenots. A very complicated scenario that will not be resolved easily. If you take the "peace process" during Nixon and Carter years, it was as much of a joke as the the idle talk between Jews and Palestinians lead by Clinton. I find it amusing that you find it to be a triumph of foreign policy. I was not commenting on the progress under Nixon and Carter, only Clinton. There were actual discussions regarding the divvying up of land, maps drawn, and what assistance Israel would provide the Palestinians. Obviously, talks have broken down...not surprisingly given all the issues in play. I still think Clinton is to be commended for whatever role he played in getting the talks as far as they have. ted
