In the case of South Korea, I think that standard, consumer-related issues had little or nothing to do with SK Telecom's decision to go for W-CDMA. The primary impetus seems to have revolved around the ability to attain far greater roaming revenues.

I would love to see figures to back up this claim. There are roaming agreements in place for japan, Australia, US, etc. Are you saying that adding the Europeans to the mix with W-CDMA is worth the hassle and expense of an upgrade? I don't see it. How much roaming happens in Korea? Koreans outside the country? Where do they roam? Where are they unable to use their phones now?
