Paul:

Its kind of funny you mentioned it. I looked at both of these companies about 2mo ago, as I they make great products and they passed a screening program i use. Unfortunately, I was (and remain) convinced of a slowdown and passed hoping for better prices down the road. Alas, it would seem that wb found one of them two tempint.

Paul,

I think Jim Clarke is a fan of SHW and if I recall correctly has mentioned it on this board before. SHW long term numbers certainly qualify it for a look as a Buffet type stock IMHO.

I considered SHW perhaps a year ago and passed. One concern now: having just bought a home myself I see strong competitive advantage for the Home Depot and Lowe's business model. I live in a city (Nashville) so maybe the situation is different in smaller communities, but SHW doesn't even enter my rader when I think of buying paint supplies.

At $16-17 or lower it does start to look pretty darn cheap though. I question if it'll still be as strong a company in 10 year though because of the continuing pressures they'll face from Home Depot/Lowe's, but at $16-17 I'd be willing to bet on it for a 20-30% rise.
