<<<If Florida's election results get mired in court challenges past this week, and neither Al Gore nor George W.
Bush concedes defeat, various bizarre scenarios could determine the nation's next president.>>>
Well its fun to speculate, but this is still only an internal Florida problem, and a problem for Republicans in only one of many counties.
It will be up to Florida to make the final call, and I doubt the US Supreme court will be willing to get involved. UNLESS other States are brought into the fray. Nobody can prove that other voters in other States will be "harmed" (more than the other)by selecting either Gore or Bush.

So the Republications will call for recounts in other states only as a last resort.
Summary:
The Florida court rules, Democrats appeal to US Supreme court, perhaps immediately, and appeal is rejected. If appeal is not rejected it become a country wide can of worms and the Republicans call for recounts in other States.

IMO the Supreme Court will not precipitate a Constitutional crisis over 300 votes in one County of one State
Just provide a government-funded class in remedial voting to Palm Beach residents.
