I merely go by the polls, and Powell has massive support. His worst problem as a Republican candidate is his pro- choice position, not his skin color. And if he is so unhappy with the Republicans, why did he make such a fabulous speech on behalf of Bush's candidacy at the convention? The statistics are meaningless without an examination of causes. No responsible commentator considers all of the problems of the black community to be consequent upon racism. Even a liberal sociologist like William Junius Williams, who is black, considers some of the problem to be incidental to the changing demographics of American business, where too many jobs left the urban core.........
