"I think the biggest worry is competing network-based solutions"
One such competitor is Mobilaris, of Sweden. They have a cute demo of "whats around me" and "where are my buddies"
mobilaris.com
The demos work better with Explorer than Netscape.

Tero,

I have enjoyed reading your posts about Nokia and I agree that network based location will be the choice of service providers. There are several public companies that do position within the network, such as U.S. Wireless (USWC) and Cell-loc (CLQ.TO).

This is a market where no one has any real share at this point. Once a contract is announced, however, I envision that their competitors will file patent infringement suits. The US PTO is allowing patents on mobile location at a dizzying rate, thus lots of patent are out there, and perhaps few are valid....
