My father was a provost. I know what I'm talking about.
It's like being a board member. Working under the president. You don't have any specific responsibilities but you yhave general clout where they let you have clout dependign on your area of expertise. You attend a lot of functions and wear a lot of robes. Very ceremonial a lot of it. It's also not necessarily a full-time job.
