You fail to address the issue of taxation without representation. If the bulk of power is transferred to the major population centers, that will effectively deny rural and sub-urban voters of a voice in the electorate. Government will turn its efforts towards servicing the major metro areas, and others will lose as a result. Arguably, the government already spends more money on social programs in the major metro areas, that is funded in part by rural and sub-urban citizens. LoF
