Gore a liberal? Not according to every Nader voter.
And if you look at his record you'll find precious little lefty activity. He has always been a moderate-liberal. Conservative on many issues. And Leiberman is even more conservative. Certainly more fiscally conservative than many Republicans.

This branding of liberal vs. conservative is also out-dated.
That's why Jesse Ventura is where he is. Most people are liberal on some things and conservative on others. I know liberals who are prudish as hell. They think tobacco is the devil's weed. Buchanon and Nader agree on many issues. My liberal side is based in a very strong concern for every little bit of our environment that's left. That's because I grew up in the country and enjoying the wildnerness. Going back to places I loved I often find them paved over and developed. I went to Washington State recently to see forests. I found huge landscapes of clear-cut nothingness.
I'm a scuba diver who adores more than anything swimming in a prstine marine environment. I have to go to Central America now to find it. We DO need to get off fossil fuel as soon as possible, but we also need to be realistic. Voting in Bush-Cheney sets that effort back a decade. I also believe in a woman's right to choose and my right to be who the hell I want to be so long as I don't hurt anyone. In this way I agree with many conservatives. And finally, I think we should pay off the damn debt before we go giving out tax breaks, especially to the rich. And we should fix a health system which makes the poor crowd emergency rooms and bankrupt the system. My health insurance keeps getting more and more expensive and I get less for it. Why even bother having it? If I get a condition they'll reject me anyway.

Bottomline nothing is going to get done unless we get campaign finance reform, open up the system, minimize soft money and yes get rid of this EC system along with the state primary BS too. Why the hell does New Hampshire nominate our candidates? What sense is there in that?

This IS going to cause a constitutional crisis, and that's a good thing. We need a great debate and some sweeping changes. If not then the major parties will just be more and more hated and cynicism will prevail. Why do candidates even need to BELONG to parties? Thus huge entrenched organizations with all their spin-doctors have way to much control over our lives and destinies.

I agree. Problem is, nobody like that was on the ballot.

We need a president right now that will try to bridge the gap between liberals and conservatives.

... Mezz - Given the option, I'd have voted "None of the above."
