I say today's close and Thursday session will go a long way in deciding the direction of the market through the end of the year. I feel the market is already bored with the elections, so if we don't get anymore surprises, the market will drift higher. You have to remember that we just left mutual fund selling in sept/oct and very poor earnings season, with a slowing economy as back drop. Now we have the public selling season coming and the less then favorable B2C and brick Christmas season to look forward. It would seem that there is little left in the bag to surprise the market now, so I see a drifting higher market. One positive note. I thing the PC sector is a sleeper. The Pent 4 upgrade cycle might surprise people with how strong it is. Win 2000 is tested and ready for prime time, peer to peer will start to gain steam, I have bought INTC and MSFT to go with my thinking above.
