In 1776 they had good reason to fear the mobs of Maryland versus the militias of Virginia. They had to bring the states together into a union which only splintered once during the Civil War. No way those issues will ever be relevant again. Even in a far-right state like Idaho three are plenty of liberals. And thre are plenty of conservatives in Massachusetts too who have been disenfranchised in national elections all their lives. States do not have a singular identity anymore. And shouldn't be characterized as being "Republican" or 'democrat". If I'm a republican in Vermont that should make me fighting mad. My vote simply doesn't matter. It only matters if I live in Florida or New Hampshire. Ridiculous.
